What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 4, page 11

Janey Todd/Rich Chat
(continued from page 10)
JT: Did you know what you wanted it to be when you started out? Did you know you wanted it to be rock and roll?
RC: Definately...we wanted to have a place where you could enjoy rock and roll and good food...and not your ordinary bar food. Everything's made by me here, fresh...
JT: Yeah, you don't expect that in a rock and roll bar, and in such mammoth proportions.
RC: That's why we named it the "big-ass burger." Also, I'm trying to revitalize the original music scene, which is a difficult thing to do. Sometimes the scene doesn't support the scene.
JT: Do you want me to put that in there?
RC: No, I'm just talking.
JT: I know, but you have  point.
RC: Yeah, whatever.
JT: So, I'd better ask you some of the questions they suggested I ask. Are you open every day?
RC: Yeah.
JT: And what time does the bar open?
RC: Three o'clock except for Saturdays and Sundays when we open at eleven.
JT: Are you serving food from the time you open?
RC: Till the time we close. [the phone rings and he answers it] Hello, Hooligans...what was that question now?...oooh...kaaay...GOod MornING! [it's late afternoon]...yes...Lars Frederickson is definitely playing this thursday...yes...well, how old are you?...ok...you could come...you're welcome...

I get the feeling that there's a giggling prepubescent girl with some outrageously phony I>D>on the other end of the phone. You would think that this would be annoying and boring to him but  he's as sweet and compassionate as if it were a little girl with a teddy bear asking for a piece of candy.

Well, that's it folks. I might be prejudiced but not when I say that Hooligans is one of the most welcoming places you're ever going to find on the jersey shore. There's a menu that includes Del
Monico Steak, Chicken Cordon Bleu, all kinds of pizzas, including white and clam and you can even scrounge some excellent vegetarian fare from it as well. There's a buffet all day every Sunday and nightly drink specials. All this with local and national acts that are frequently not/irritating and usually rocking your [socks] off. As it says on the menu at Hooligans "we promise friendly and courteous service. You will be served in 5 minutes...or maybe 10 minutes...or maybe 15 minutes...relax and enjoy yourself. This ain't fast food."

This ain't no disco either, but it is a party and sort of like the garage, only with GOOD musicians and better food. For directions to the club and information on upcoming shows call
