What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 8, page 2

It's open mike time at Bar Anticipation in South Belmar.

If you're looking for a place to wind down on Monday night after that after shock feeling of "Oh it's Monday already", you should try coming down to Bar Anticipation in South Belmar. Walk towards the back and you'll find the coolest sub-contractor on the jersey shore, Ron, host of the open mike night.  Ron is an incredibily fair host who by avoiding any stringent sign-up policy, creates a very relaxed atmosphere. And Ron goes out of his way to make each performer sound good. To get a good slot however, it is suggested that you get there at about 8:30pm.

Some NJCoasters who have delighted in Ron's sound system are Paul Marino, Bobby Strange, and Lorrie Tomlinson.  And if you're not a musician but rather the jock-type, right next to the outer bar area is a volleyball net, where you can attempt to lay a master spike after about downing about five or six Coronas.

"Hey, no spiking!"

And there are other attractions as well. At the stage at the inside bar, they occasionally have comedy night, fortune telling, and of course pre-season football on the tube. The kitchen prepares a free buffet with such goodies as macaroni salad, baked ziti and chicken.  Drink specials include $2 Bass Ales.  For more details and directions call Bar Anticipation at 732-681-7422. ---David J. Pezhead gets ahead with VH-1

The fun factor sometimes lacking in today's music can be found in form of the cover band Pez Head. A recent taping of the VH-1 Cover Wars show found lead singer Elaine Tuttle in a pink hair wig and bassist Frank Mount in a gargantuan sombrero.

"It was fun," said guitarist/keyboardist/singer (and Freehold native) Doug Losche.  "It was one of the greatest things we've ever done.  We'd do it again for sure." The show pinned 27 bands hand picked by VH-1 against each other.  The overall winner drove home in a van filled with musical gear.

Bands competed by playing song samples before celebrity judges.  They were given lists of possible tunes, but not told what they would actually play on the show.
