What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 12, page 7

Joey's Here To Stay!!

Joey Harrison's Surf Club, Ortley Beach, thwarts rumors in a Web site statement, maintaining that the venue is not sold to a condominium developer.
Instead, the club remains owned by Joe Sr., who said in a prepared statement that Joey Harrison's will "be around for years to come.''
In the mind of Joe Sr., the club is "an icon of the Jersey Shore." It's played host to Shredfest in 1997 and consecutive Surfstocks, which is a large beach-front concert that showcased recently-signed as well as established alternative rock bands such as They Might Be Giants.
"We understand that Joey Harrison's Surf Club has become a New Jersey institution over the years," Joe Sr. said,  "and it has been a place where people have come with friends, made new friends, and even met their wives and husbands."
The club's main music night, Planet Surf, will return for 2002 on a Friday schedule. According to the Surf Club, next summer will see a "Local's Only" V.I.P card introduced for the first time.
"This is the card for anyone who felt left out this year...No more waiting in line and very reduced admission,'' club officials stated.
Besides this, cardmembers will have a separate entrance, their own lounge and wait staff. The card is available to those proving local residence with an ID.
Summer 2002 is also the ten-year anniversary of Planet Surf, and the Surf Club is planning some special events accordingly.
Club regulars are invited to voice their opinion of Joey Harrison's in a feedback questionnaire, available at its Web site, www.joeyharrisonssurfclub.com. The questionnaire is vital toward planning next summer's entertainment and services, according to the club. It directly asks which bands
