What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 2, page 7

The Java Hut (continued from page 1) venues you could ask for on a laid-back, Sunday night, offered some prettygot an earful of Howie-O, the organizer and MC of the event. I must admit the good fellow had me in stitches with his "Kleptomaniac ex-girlfriend" and "the President got a (you know, wink wink, nudge nudge) in the White House" ditties.  He bounces with the rhythmic strumming of his guitar as if the two were united physically, opening the Java's show with a set of upbeat, Frank Zappa_esque tunes in a voice reminiscent of Lou Reed.- After Howie-O, the stage was graced by Marella, a beautiful young chanteuse in the style of Sarah Maclachlan and old-school

Fiona Apple. She sang her heart out into the microphone for a few songs, complementing Howie's comedy nicely.

The Songwriters Tour Guide
(continued from page 6)
…the Red Bank Society of Songwriters (www.njcoast.com /music/rbsos) held its next in a series of Songwriter shows to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation at the Internet Café.  Bobby Strange and I hosted some great talent who came out to support the cause. Thanks to Andy & Denise (New York City), Arjuna (West Long Branch, NJ), Ariana Daner (Suffern, NY), Sean Kerr (Red Bank), Joe Giacoio (Somerset, NJ), Mole (Ocean, NJ), Lezlee Peterzell (New York City), Stanleybirch (Sam and Danny Romero from Paterson, NJ) and Laura Warshauer. We had a great time, raised some cash and shared some tunes. The next show is April 20th, 2000 and will feature some more great talent.  Sean Kerr is among the artists who commented on how they have enjoyed the S.O.S. shows: "The songwriter nights are becoming my social time. I always look forward to each one, and I'm NEVER disappointed."
