J.T.: Is there a sign-up?
KBOB: Yes, there is. For any open Mike you wanna let the host know you're there. You don't want to be off in a corner waiting for someone to notice you.
J.T.: [talking to the tape recorder] Yeah, Kbob's very friendly, you don't need to be afraid of him.Is there any specific kind of music that's being played?
KBOB: Nope, nope, nope, nope nope.. It's totally up to the artist. That's the beauty of it. Please come and express...I'd be more pleased to hear personal expressions on what can be done than a repeat of what someone else has done. And if you're gonna do a repeat, at least give it to me the way that you would do it.
J.T.: Yeah, yeah, yeah! [Kbob laughs at my vehemence].Do you have any other advice?
KBOB: O.k.. Be positive about what you do. Take the time to work out a set at home and become familiar with it so that you won't be distracted by whatever else is going on around you.
J.T.: Anything else?
KBOB: Don't be dismayed if your sound is not exactly the way you anticipated it. It takes time for you and the sound person to discover each other's needs sometimes. And if you make a mistake - keep going!

KBOB: [because I asked] Yeah, I'm getting totally wrapped up in this computer thing.
J.T.: That's good.
KBOB: It's getting tough, though, there's a whirlwind of things to know and when you talk about the high end of the cool stuff, that's like, years away. You know, it's like music - you think "I'm gonna get a guitar and learn three chords and I'm gonna be in commercials and they're gonna pay me lotsa money....."
