What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 7, page 11

Scott Brandt in Residence
along the Jersey Shore

Scott Brandt earns the label "Most overlooked shore legend." I mean, this guy has been gigging, writing, gigging, and writing for ever ten years, pleasing audiences with his masterful guitar playing and wholesome, rock and roll vocals.

This summer you can experience just that at venues like the Cool Beans Coffeehouse in Toms River. Scott definitely will turn you inside-out with his battery of originals and cover tunes ranging from classic rock to punk to the best in modern alternative music.

Although most coffeehouses are more prone to offer light acoustic music, the owners of some of these places will occasionally allow Scott to plug in, unleashing guitar solos that can be heard all the way in the parking lot and neighboring Multiplex.

In addition to the musical amenities, Scott also has a pleasing repoire with the audience and is just your everyday nice guy. He was one of the first performers NJ Coast photographed for its pages back in 1998. And he is still going strong.  Since then he has put out his own self-produced CDs that have gotten him airplay on stations like THE RAT. So go see him at places like Cool Beans, or anywhere for that matter. And pick up a CD while you're at it. You will not be disappointed.--David J. Gorsky

KBOB
continued from page 10
KBOB: Nope, [gently laughing] no problems. [what a sweetheart. Half of him probably wants to tell me to just chill..The beatles come on the sound system and I say...]
J.T.: Now, this would be the kind of girl you're talking about...[then I realize that it's not the song that I thought it was] oh no, I thought it was "Daytripper".
B.H.:  ..No, that was the one playing before that, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, that's why it was in your head...[another sweetheart - I'm giving him a hard time and he's still being nice. Guys, you gotta love em.]
Hey! Come to the famous Kbob's (no, it's not a barbeque chain) open mike night. Good musicians, attentive sound man, nice people and if you're a chick, (well, even Martina Navratalova says "we're just girls") Kbob might even let you play with his didge.
Paul's is located at 1703 Main street in South Belmar.
