What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 7, page 18

SHOREWORLD from page 9
The new music includes the moody 'Vampire', 'He was so Bad', [about a bad boy born BAD!} and "Back In Russia", an epic of cold war proportions. Done in what I'd describe as their trademark Gogos meet Ramones style attack, the girls are currently back in the studio working on yet another follow-up CD, which, according to the band's official PR Fount, "The Bishop", is aiming towards a Summer 2001 release. The Catholic Girls are: Gail Petersen, Writer/Lead vocal/s/rhythm guitar {Founding Member}, Roxy Andersen, lead guitar/backing vocals {Founding Member}, Kyd Ellsworth, bass guitar & Percussion {Original Touring Member} and drummer Jen Bond, who as the Catholic Girls' "perfect percussive soul'" was found through placing a few ads in local Jersey papers, where the band was once formed and now regenerated! And Bear in mind, in the years since their album's original release, many things that the band started have become De Rigeur and just the rage for today's X Generation, like crucifix jewelry, jet black schoolgirl outfits, the little girl look, angst-ridden music in minor keys, strong female singer-songwriters, patent leather shoes and Britney Spears plaid skirts. And most importantly, Women have since been taken more seriously as No-No-Nonsense artists, for their more intense, sarcastic lyrical styles, i.e., like Liz Phair, Alanis, Courtney, Patti, Joan Osborne and many more...The current CD Catholic Girls is available at CDNow, Amazon.Com, Tower Records, Borders {online & instore} and many other internet sites & stores around the tristate area, and once the band is done with their new recording project, they plan to get back on the live altar and play, which is expected before the leaves start changing, bubby..Before We Forget, Check Out their website at www.catholicgirls.net , and, uh, be sure you cross yourself before you click…

Just when I thought I couldn't get any closer to Heaven, one of my favorite local bands began playing. The night ended perfectly with Jake full of great food and sleepy enough to sit through a full hour of music by Stringbean & the Stalkers. We had been listening on and off to an eclectic variety of music all day. We arrived at 1:00pm just in time for reggae with Jah Works, danced around between helpings of clam chowder with The VooDUDES and sang along with the Sonny Kenn Band. All in all, it was a great time.
