What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 6, page 13

"SHORE WORLD" (continued from page 12)
audience which followed DJ Matt Pinfield's on-air forays of discovery, as 'Mighty Matt' dug up ground-breaking alternative acts like The Wonder Stuff, Dramarama and Nude Swirl, who were the first Jersey alternative act (On Megaforce Records) to get national MTV exposure…With a ready-to-flip stash of over 500 discs, this aural panorama will be supplemented by promo discs provided by the event's sponsor CD World, and Curran promised us the night will be run on a request basis, or in his words, "If I've got it, You're gonna hear it!"So Make The Brighton [121 Brighton Avenue, Long Branch/222-9684} a Monday night Must-see, it could become a habit: Doors open at 730 PM, w/no cover until 830. After 830, its $6 for men 21 and up, $8 for Males Under 21, and All Women will be admitted free. If you're thirsty, don't fret, there'll be $2 longnecks and 75 cent drafts all night long..See you at The Bright One!

CINEMA STAR, LONG MAY YOU TWINKLE!!!

We caught the Bayshore/Middlesex based answer to Pop's Passioned Prayers recently where else but at Wayne's Playroom, aka "The Broadway", as this 4 man unit celebrated their 1st CD release 'WideScreen' with a stinging set of their brand of Thinking Man's Pop, and the club was so packed that you could barely walk 10 feet beyond the door.

Cinema Star IS: Kenny Heim, guitar, vocals, Randy Heim, Rhythm guitar, vocals, Keith Shapiro, Bass, and John Crocco, drums, and the boys tell us their influences run a gamut from Social D & The Ramones to New Order and Depeche Mode.

And with hardly a pause the band deftly slashed their way thru a 45 minute set that included gems from their CD like the heart-racing, hope-tinged lyrics (continued on page 14)

Jane Says...
(continued from page 12)

S.S.:
No, I've just been listening to a lot of cds, so...
J.T.:
Oh, you mean just to check, for business reasons?
S.S.:
Yeah, but that's always good.
J.T.:
Now, is that a factor, do you have to know that a band has a following?...
S.S.:
Yeah, I gotta say, as a booking agent, you have to be a detective, you have to ask 20 million questions because the bands are always trying to put one over on you...if they think that's the only way to get a gig.
J.T.:
They bull____ you?
S.S.:
Yeah, and I always catch them....I say, dude, man, just be honest...
J.T.:
Like me
S.S.:
[laughs derisively]
J.T.:
I do! I always tell you I can't bring anybody out.
S.S.:
Well, that's being honest...and then I look at you...in that way. It's not taking anything personal, it's a business...so it's constant [hassles] and that takes a lot of my day.
J.T.:
[I'm a little pissed that he doesn't remember how many times I said "but I can't promise..." but then again , (continued from page 14).
