What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 3, page 3

Everlounge: Cabaret meets Beck?
If you're looking for something different, you should try to catch Everlounge in performance. This five-piece ensemble is primarily a cover band who mixes its influences and tastes to produce an infectious neo-lounge type sound that is fun, nostalgic, and yet surprisingly hip.

I managed to see them through an empty glass of cognac at the Downtown Cafe and was instantly blown away. I mean, where else could you hear Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire," Frank and Nancy Sinatra's "Something Stupid" and the novelty hit "Shikse Girl" all in one evening?.

Lead vocalist Don Dazzo, dressed like a modern day Bryan Ferry, injects the right amount of humor into the songs, while multi-instrumentalist Billy Siegel maintains the groups bona fide jazzy textures either on keyboards or trumpet. Mark Norwine and Bob Ardrey take care of the guitar department. Their stinger leads and rhythms can turn a 1950s songs into a near post-modern grundge.  Bassist Joe Rowley and drummer Chuck keep many foot and pelvic area moving. Occasionally, a female vocalist will ad a little spice to the line-up.

Needless to say, the group does get around, playing many out-of-state venues, parties, and banquets.

The Claddagh in The Highlands will have The Immigrants at 7PM and Willie Lynch at 12PM, both playing traditional Irish music.

Paddy McDonald's will have Junior and Herk playing Classic Rock until the kegs run dry.

If you're making a weekend out of it, and wouldn't want mind making a road trip, try Tumulty's Pub in New Brunswick. On Thursday March 15, The Chuck Stern Trio will be playing jazz, on Friday, March 16, The Cross Continental Railroad will play classic rock.  And on St. Patty's Day, traditional Irish music will fill the air courtesy of Money in Both Pockets.
