Open Mike Night(continued from page 7) R.F.:
I think it's a great opportunity because it's a forum where I can work out stuff and if nobody shows up, that's O.K. too. So that's how I got involved with it. J.T.:
And how long ago was that? R.F.: That was about 6 or 8 months ago, and then I met with KBob [local singer/sonwriter] and all those guys, they're great... J.T.:
[here I went into an oversealous "KBob is God" routine]. So lets see, they told me to ask you some questions... What time does it start officially? R.F.: Generally about eight thirty
J.T.: O.K. and what time does it end R.F.:
It ends at different times... We try to get everybody in, we kind of go with who's here. What happens, sometimes, is people show up at twelve thirty and they want to play so we keep going...until what the legal drinking laws allow us.
J.T.: Which is two a.m.? R.F.:
Yeah, usually it's 1:00, sometimes it's 12:30, sometimes it's 1:30. One thing I would like to stress about open mike is what you were saying about KBob...support. I found early on that the majority of people who come and play are very supportive of each other. It's like...well, yeah, I don't want to be putting him down then when I'm up there, he'll be putting me down, there's all that backstabbing. None of that goes on...and what a positive atmosphere, I mean just to be around. I like to be around people like that. I would say that's the most important thing I've gotten, if not learned from open mike is that the people who come in are that way and I don't know why that is, but 99% of everyone is like that.
J.T.: I noticed that...plus there's food! Right?! R.F.: Yeah, there's a buffet...you can nosh on stuff... J.T.: Now, there's no sign-up, right? R.F.: No.
J.T.: But you want people to check in with you when they come in? R.F.: I think...people come in...and I try to go up to them J.T.: Oh, O.K..(continued on page 9)
