What's Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

Volume 2, Number 5, page 4

Chris Barry's "Shore World"
(continued from page 3)
snarling vocal commentary on Shooting Reagan and finding Kurt Cobain will surely not leave ya' hangin'..

While the band's space-rapping psycho-intensity shines alongside Frank's poly-morphing ax riffs on 'Mexico', which starts off in a simmering to coiling riff that launches into classic Flat Morrison Polyspeak about 'ERA, ATF, CNN and Flagburning' that'll rock you all the way to Tijuana with the song's lunging anthemics and racing, tongue-in-cheek menace..Tooker's drumming again kicks ass, propelling the band into its own manically dense mix on 'Right is Wrong', a bit of Metallica meets Soundgarden on Speed mayhem..Or behold the psychotic loner in 'Richard Cranium', another balls-to-the wall attack in a GWAR on Fishbone rhythms mode only equaled in intensity by the next 'M-80's" headcrunching rap-edged grunge funk onslaught..

And maybe you'll get the joke by the time 'Flower Child' makes its Grungey snickers at The Love Generation, and just drops its own humorous load on the subject in firing squad.style. Whichever you prefer, 'Embrace Your Demons' is a writhing, kicking crunching beastie that despite its high-intensity, way-loud headcore insanity, leaves you somehow wanting more; All the songs clock in at 3 minutes or under, and easily demonstrate the band's innate ability to jam it out just before the point of no return, no easy feat in this power-riffing, shock-rock posing world we groove in..I actually understood the lyrics, as opposed to some of their live shows, and also credit producer Mike Grau with keeping a sane but knowingly unstable hand on the project in general..

Latshaw
Update

(continued from page 3)
Tightly as Affinto vocally harmonized with guitarist Billy Latshaw. Billy's brother, Tom, did his usual grooving on bass to add some dimension to the bottom. Drummer Craig Otto provided a steady beat on one their new songs, "Change" to add to the strong performance.  Of course, Billy managed his usual guitar pyrotechnics even without an electric guitar.

Tom is so fond of the current line-up he say this is how the band will stay to the end. As a once dead scene begins to pick up along the shore, hopefully Latshaw can be one of the bands to benefit. "We're just a real good strong unit," said Tom previously.  He continues, "Jersey Alone has a name with Springsteen, the Jukes. I feel we're in that caliber cause of the debt we paid and quality of our music."--Josh Davidson  For a review of Latshaw's show at the Brighton Bar, click here.
