Brighton Memoir Latshaw show puts the proof in the pudding.
In our first issue, guitarist-composer Billy Latshaw put an ad in our first newsletter saying that he was looking for a lead singer and lyricist. Five months later, he's playing gigs with this
new singer named Mike Affinito and boy, what a find ! It seems that Billy, along with Mike, brother Tom on bass and drummer Craig Otto are the right combination to bring Billy's worthy barrage of aural
mayhem to life.
Billy and the guys really proved it to me the other night, right from their opener "Liquid," a martial drumming extravaganza with unexpected stops and starts.
As they progressed, they got funkier with the song "All for One" facilitated by the smack bass of brother Tom. Things toned down a bit as Billy want acoustic with the ballads "Change" and "The Day I'm In." But that lull in the volume did not last long for Billy whipped out some crazy leads on the next number "Burn Your Wings."
Latshaw finished their set with an untitled instrumental which would make any fan of King Crimson or Henry Cow merciful.
Affinito on lyrics and vocals allows the rest of the band to really play out. And Billy gets to do what he does best, write infectious rockers and play guitar. Go see them on May 6 at Paul's Tavern in Belmar ($3.00 cover FREE DRAFT BEER FOR 7 HOURS--no BS!!) and on May 12 at the Saint in Asbury (Tom's birthday show with Liquid logic)--
