Rebecca's Eat to the Beat...Once again, here we are getting ready to indulge in the finer aspects of summer. The annual Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweep is upon us, the Italian ice joint down the street has started
its summer hours and the coastal bar scene is picking up. I am lucky enough to reside in the epitome of tourist towns, Belmar, and have been subject to two late night D.U.I. stops in the last week. Ah!
The thrill of summer is upon us! With that sentiment, I have decided to dedicate this months Eat to the Beat to my all time favorite tourist bar-The Mad Hatter. The Mad Hatter in Sea Bright tops my list for a number of reasons. If you're still reading this you're probably wondering what those reasons are, well, hold on to your butt. Here's the list..
1. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! Within walking distance you have five more great bars, access to the ocean and you're on the main drag (Ocean Ave.) so finding a taxi isn't
like starring in Mission Impossible.
2. The crowd. Some bars have preceding reputations that make you cringe even before you take that first shot of Jaegerrmeister. For example, upon mentioning Ichabod's (a
neighboring bar), I received a chorus of "their nose's are stapled to the ceiling". All that I have ever encountered at the Mad Hatter is good conversation with people who seem to be out for the same
reason I am, to have a good time.
3. The service. Our waitress rocked! She was the best waitress I have ever had. She was attentive, punctual and had a great smile.
4. Entertainment. The quality of entertainment is always damn good, featuring mostly cover tunes with a seasoning of original songs. The last time I had dinner here I
ended up watching Jack Tripper perform for an hour after I had intended to leave. There are three televisions in the dining room and (continued on page 12)
