SHORE WORLD/OCTOBER 2001~!~!~! (continued from page 7) congas and timing shine, while Nick's guitar punctuates his always urgent, never inane vocals. Overall, a rambling look back on growing up, Otter style, and yes, finding serenity. Because serenity's cool, along w/the laid-back sounding but dead-on musicianship of title cut 'Friggin' Fabulous", where Nick's typically poignant oddball lyrical twists and sweet folk guitar riffing almost bring a tear among the metaphors. And 'Retrospect' of course travels a mellow but tongue out of cheek route similar to 'Tail', I,e, 'we used to be dreamers, now we pay the bills' that once again won't jolt you w/loud cheap thrills, but will keep tickling and nudging you until you finally laugh out loud and start bopping along. The band lately plays an irregular schedule, as percussionist Ryan/'Herbicyde' also has a gig with Majiul, and Nick [the former announcer "Voice
of HTG"}is very busy w/his new position at Bloomberg Radio;
In fact, Ciaviatta recently produced and narrated an entertainment segment broadcast on Bloomberg AM about The Asbury Music Awards and the Shore Music scene which showed off his longtime talent for
newscasting and voiceover work

Not just another Local Rock Compilation/"
We recently got our hands on one of those generically packaged multi-track CD collections of allegedly promising and "Unknown" local bands and solo acts. I.E>, "UNSIGNED BANDS VOL 1" includes two acts who are wildly familiar to us, Jack Stock & Megatone Bomb, along with a real crapshoot of artists that run a gamut from more than passable to nearly awful. .The 10 song disc was recorded at Central Sound Studios [732-251-4603], and mastered by techmeister John Mulrenan,[former
guitarist in LORD GUNNER}.
We started w/Rich Lancia's power trio doing 'Touch", which kicked off on a Smithereens-grade power riff, into a fair cruncher w/mundane lyrics that is saved in the end by kickass riffing and a decent arrangement. {More Info: 732-521-5890]
Next however, we looked for blame for the Edison-based Avalanche's "Don't Blame it on Me", a Simple Minds meets Weezer effort w/nice B3 runs, all of it propelling typically off-the mark over-reaching
vocals which quickly became too tedious for a 5 minute song. Contact: Solid Ground Records at 71 Leslie St., #4, Edison NJ/08817 (continued on page 9)
