SHORE WORLD/OCTOBER 2001~!~!~! (continued from page 9) crunchy pop attack which is typified by this track;
Featuring your basic theme about love blossoming, w/clever to rawly sexual lyrics in fast poprap style, I've seen the band & lead singer John Gottstein
grow, along w/ the band's lyrical potential. I.E., although 'Give it up's' ambitious lyrics are almost too busy for one song, somehow its main hook rallies and saves the whole thing. They can be a lot of fun
live, and with the right producer and material I feel they can go far w/'The Megatone Sound'. For more info, call the Megatone Line at {732} 494-2604!
Remember, out of 10 songs on the CD, these are the best and the worst; therefore, just FORGET about Paula Riscoe's "Forget about Her', that starts with a very crisp electric/acoustic intro, but quickly becomes just a terrible assault on your patience, w/its overstrained vocals and horribly flat inflections, I.E>, 'TodayyyyuuHHHHHH…' or "It's over NAOWWWW..WWWW'' Sounds like she's relying too much on the cough syrup and menthol smokes, can't be sure, but .I mean.. Finally, at the other Grrl-pop extrmem, there's Shrinking Violet doing the old Peggy March chestnut 'Princess"; that's just TOOOO…COOL, for its slick chickpop production: Featuring VO5-level
B52's harmonies and ample chutzpah a' la Blondie or The Highschool Sweethearts that just approach crunch levels but pull back to the sugary mascara at critical moments..
Face it girls, this candy-coated saccharine tongue swap is just ultimately TOOOO…Cute, but I'd like to hear what this band's originals sound like after less studio time and, say 6 months
on the road..To Contact the band, Shrinkingviol82@hotmail.com.
And..Is She "Just A Chick and A Microphone" or is JANEY TODD truly "The Mystery Girl"
AKA a minor but shining Shore Star in her own right, we took a listen to the once-named "Bridge Singer's" first material on CD, which was dubbed 'Mystery Girl' by project engineer/producer 'Skybolt Jim' Raia..
In what is basically your bare-bones project w/little effects and stark arrangements, Todd's drowsily soulful but deliberate vocal style and rudimentary (continued on page 11) …
