Beware of the Dogs of Pompeii

If you are into spacey, jammin' bands, without the pot of course, the one to watch is The Dogs of Pompeii. Here's a band that fuses many different styles to keep the audience on its toes. 

Dogs of Pompeii leaving their mark.

They played the ever-so-lovingly-weird Broadway Central Cafe on Friday, August 17, showcasing a sound that is dense, rich, and full of surprises.

Guitarist Brian Woodward is actually a classically trained trumpet player and public school music teacher who forsakes any Brandenburg inclinations with this electric amalgam of inspired madness. Their  (continued on page 3)

Bruce lends a hand at Clearwater

Bruce Springsteen appeared at the Clearwater Festival in Asbury making a strong attempt to provide hope to the city whose future is looking bright. The Boss, who made his name there during its times of prosperity and decay, clearly reserves a place for the city in his heart.  Playing on the tent covered east stage with his  black Takamine acoustic, and harmonica Springsteen spoke of his optimism of future waterfront development after recent court victories by Asbury's City Council.  He later went to the Stone Pony and joined E-Street guitarist Nils Lofgren on the Outdoor Stage and John Eddie indoors.

Springsteen, dressed in a button-down shirt, khakis and baseball cap had a smile on his face and passion in his voice during his half-hour acoustic set. (continued on page 2)

Poets unite in Brick

Brick Township's devotion to poetry and the folk arts continues in an afternoon event Sept. 15.

A Folk Music and Poetry Festival will grace the same arena as Brick Recreation's "Poetry in the Park" series that welcomes poets of all levels to read their works. Windward Beach Park's gazebo overlooks the Metedeconk River, for an appropriate "folksy" scene to the festival. Directing the program is Bob E. Anstett, the artistic director for Brick (continued on page 2)
