As the program read: "The Asbury Shorts Show of New York. Friday and Saturday (August 30 and 31, 2002) 'The Best of the U.S. Festivals'. An Evening of Award Winning Independent Short Films." You should have been there Friday night! "Who me?" you ask...YEAH YOU! Why? Well, it wasn't JUST that the whole deal included 12 films at the historic Baronet Theatre (4th Avenue) , a catered after-party next door at the kooky Fastlane, and an art show with original artwork from the always excellent Be Gallery mailto:befreetobe@aol.com http://www.beinasburypark.com It wasn't JUST that the event cost a super-reasonable 10 bucks either. It was the feeling that this could be the first of many such events or possibly the last. You see these buildings are in the path of the highly publicized waterfront development project in Asbury Park. Hopefully these gems from the past will be preserved, but they have to show that they are truly being utilized. I could go off on that tangent, but for more info, go to www.asburypark.net. As far as the films go, there wasn't a flop in the bunch. We're talking "award-winning", and everyone could see why. My expectations were of a mixed bag of more abstract films, perhaps some poignant messages, and then some comedies.
