    Rock Night-The Saint

Dani (left) and Danielle of DWI

"Rock Night" is what The Saint's web page (www.thesaintnj.com) calls the show I attended on July 3 that featured DWI, LP, Pie and Bella and the Bottom Feeders. Few descriptions I can think of are better suited to it; no small amount of rock was presented on stage that evening by these four acts.
The act that originally got me through the door was DWI. They were the first to perform, and I was not to be disappointed.
Danielle Donnangelo (guitar, vocals) and Dani Fiore (percussion) make up the act, and have been playing together for two years. This was their first show at the Saint, but they have also performed at Coffee Blue (even back when it was the Java Hut), the Internet Café, Cool Beans and Paul's Tavern.
The pair played an acoustic set, with Fiore alternating between hand drums and a full kit. In a setup like this, where there's really only three things making noise (read: drums, acoustic guitar, and vocals), you cannot but plainly notice each individual part of the whole. And none of them fell short; Fiore's skillful percussion stylings perfectly complemented Donnangelo's guitar melodies and beautiful, emotive voice.
(By the way, DWI does not stand for what you might think it would. However, Donnangelo would not tell me what it actually does stand for. I suppose keeping up mystique has its benefits.)
In any case, the band does not have an official web site yet but do have their presence felt on the net all the same at http://groups.msn.com/dwibs- FansofthebandDWI.

BCC Open Mic

The Broadway Central Café Thursday night open mic continues to roar along. People are coming from all corners of the globe.
KAZ even came from Tokyo. Sure, he was disappointed-but that’s life.
Sign up is at 9:30 pm. We start playing at 10 pm.
This event is for acoustic musicians who write their own songs. It’s mostly an unplugged event. If you’re an electric band, don’t come. If you have a lot of equipment, don’t come. If you think you have a lot of stuff but “you can set it up quick” then don’t come.
Everyone else is welcome. Well, not everyone. But most of you.
We often have pretzels and sometimes peanuts. Once we had an EGGPLANT TORTE. Go ahead and find that at another open mic.
There is a sound system. There is a large and sometimes dangerous Doberman.
Like I said, sign up is at 9:30 pm.
