What’s Up This Month on the New Jersey Coast

MMillion Time Winner

Million Time Winner is a band comprised of Christians. Whether they are to be classified as a Christian band or not is a question left up to the genre-militants but the classification is one that sometimes sends me red flags. While I am very happy that some artists are able to take their writing to an emotional level beyond that of a break-up, the small size of the Christian music industry makes it easier for bands with less talent to make it big. Million Time Winner, however, put me at ease, for they are able to hold their own and certainly are not gaining popularity solely for their beliefs.
Their new album "Writing the Broken Line" is full of feel good indie pop songs. Drummer Pete Andrews' powerhouse sound rivals jazz musicians and 80s hair bands, and the bass is turned up high enough to keep me from asking the question I sadly have to ask some bands-Why do they bother having a bassist?

I asked them how their beliefs show in their music, as that is a common question for many Christian consumers. Answered Pete Andrews, "It's unavoidable. You live a certain way because your life is changed by there being a God above."
The band started in 2000 with just the two brothers, Pete and Christian Andrews. It was then that they released their first album "All But Snatched Away" (2001). Compared to their most recent release, Pete described this album as "Darker, desperate and powerful but full of hope. More organic."

MBar Crawl
(cont from page 6)

It was easier to start a conversation, especially about the game. Best of all, they had the cheapest drinks of the evening!
Next, we crossed the street the “Hip Town Grille,” a deck behind the Olde Union House. It seemed a bit overcrowded, but prices were reason- able, there was good live entertainment and a beautiful view of the Navesink River. It’s no surprise so many people wanted to be there.
On the advice of a guy at the Globe, we then went to Reds on Broad Street. This restaurant/lounge has been open about four months now and the best word to describe it is “hip”. With Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams blasting out of its sound system and a sleek decor, it’s the kind of place people go to be seen.
For some, these are all the makings of a good bar. Personally, I don’t like having to worry about whether my outfit is cool enough. Having to wait 15 minutes just to get into the upstairs lounge wasn’t my idea of a good Friday night, either.
I may not have liked Reds, but it proves that there’s something for every- one in Red Bank. Go there this weekend and see for yourself.
