But no worries. Because Kriz Oehme, Poet Laureate winner, fanned the fired-up crowd. He was thankful but reminded Scott that his first name is spelled with a z. Hey the trophy may be spelled wrong, but it was in the right hands!

Just in case you were wondering where the rock went, Days Awake took the stage. This band made the crowd stand up and take notice. What's really incredible is the keyboardist's agility and the fact that this band has a fierce female behind the drum kit. Sarah Tomeck's got such chops, she nabbed the Top Drummer award.

Readymade Breakup kept the rock flowing and with songs like "Unmistakably Me," it's not surprising that they took home the award for Top Pop Band.

something for someone instead of just handing them a receipt for a book." Many days you'll find every seat filled with people snacking and reading contentedly. Prices are reasonable and you can get a frequent coffee buyer card. All ages are welcome. What more reason could you need than to come back, have a coffee, get your card punched, and listen to some great tunes?

But on Friday nights from 8pm to 10pm, you can sip and sing along to local talent. I was so lucky on September 17 because the talent pool grew as the evening went on. First up, and the main act of the evening, Joe Hughes of Goldenseal. He sang some songs we all knew, and played tunes off the band's current CD. Then he invited Patti Bramson up to strum a few melodies. Her soothing voice just filled the store and brought even more people into the already filled café area. Her rendition of Jolee is still etched in my memory. Then Karen Anne percussionist joined both John and Patti lending some drumming and background vocals on a Lucinda Williams tune. Joe invited his friend Jason Harkavy up to strum on the guitar and Gerry McAvoy brought things down home with harmonica
