deSol Brings Latin Beats Back Home

In 2001, deSol started playing together in the Asbury Park/Red Bank area. Then a modest latin-rock trio, the band has grown in size and fame over the past few years. The now seven-piece band includes three

percussionists, two guitars, one bass guitar, and one keyboard. They have recently returned from a nationwide tour with The Whalers, which conga player James describes as "a truly magical experience." Other noteworthy performances include a U.S. tour with the Dirty Dozen, and a Mexico City concert, where they performed with REM for a crowd of over 20,000. This past July, deSol was reached number 11 on the charts, and received airpaly on 33 radio stations around the country. The band’s self-titled album hit stores on July 26.
"When we started out, we had big dreams," reports lead vocalist and guitarist, Albie. "We were not afraid to dream. We wanted to spread the music as far as we could." But despite their newfound fame and success, continued on page 11

DWI Plays First Offense at The Saint

continued from page 5 Since then, DWI has performed at a variety of local venues, with appearances at The Saint and The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. They recall their most memorable performance, playing with Bon Jovi at the Pony in 2003. "The place was packed," says Danny, "it was really something."
